Aerospace industry
Aerospace industry : The charismatic President of Thales Canada, Mr. Marcel de Picciotto, sketches a brief portrait of his company's prolific activities, and explains what makes Thales Canada a leader.
Thales is an international electronics conglomerate that is first and foremost an engineering group. With the collaboration of more than 60,000 employees worldwide, Thales invests substantially in research and development in order to more successfully compete in the global market and this, thanks to innovation. Thales Canada reaps many benefits from the expertise of the global Thales Group, and is able to offer solutions adapted to the needs of Canadians in the fields of the aerospace industry, defence and security. In addition, it has piloted several significant technology transfers.
AEROSPACE INDUSTRY
Thales Canada distinguishes itself in turnkey avionics systems integration, flight controls and other similar equipement
Thales Canada is set up near Bombardier, its principal client in the regional and business aviation sector. In the aerospace industry, Thales Canada distinguishes itself in turnkey avionics systems integration, flight controls and other similar avionics equipment, which are all similarly innovative.
Always on the lookout for new technology, in 2002, Thales Canada secured a grant from the Government of Canada to develop fly-by-wire flying controls for the regional and business aviation markets, seeing as
up until then, this market was relying upon hydromechanical systems.
A FIRST "INTERNATIONAL CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE" IN FLIGHT CONTROLS
Building upon technology developed by Thales for first level commercial aviation flight controls, Thales Canada has developed new flight controls that are far lighter, less cumbersome, more easily replaceable, and thus more economical. Thales Canada's success in this field has earned it the designation "Centre of Excellence" in the Flight Controls Systems Group.
More recently, in Montreal, Thales has developed a certified head-up sight for Bombardier's Global Express family of business aircraft, a device that, when combined with an infrared camera enables the pilot to see the outside environment in difficult climatic conditions. This success has led Thales to develop a new generation of sights, which were selected for the Airbus A380 and A400 aircraft and that will soon be adapted to regional and business aircraft.
Prestigious clients
In addition to Bombardier, Thales Canada counts the leading aircraft manufacturers as its clients, including Embraer, Gulfstream, Sukhoi and Dassault.
The appeal of being in the Technoparc
"It's a nice environment, the President of Thales Canada confides in us, near the major arteries and it offers us room to grow. Most of our employees work in the West Island; the park is well located. In addition, the facilities and infrastructures are expanding: the current construction of a hotel will be a definite asset."
